Our Mission & Vision

M

Mission

To protect Sri Lanka's elephants — both in the wild and in human care — by promoting responsible stewardship, ethical treatment, and sustainable conservation. We bridge communities, researchers, policymakers, and the public.

V

Vision

A Sri Lanka where elephants and humans thrive together — where domestic elephants live with dignity and wild elephants roam free. We envision Alimankada growing from a National Forum into the first Asian and eventually Global Elephant Forum.

Objectives

What Alimankada 2026 Aims to Achieve

01

Cultural Roots

Explore the historical and cultural relationships between Sri Lankans and elephants — recognising that this bond is central to our national identity.

02

Identify Current Issues

Identify and address the pressing issues facing both domestic and wild elephants in Sri Lanka today — from welfare to habitat loss.

03

Actionable Solutions

Discuss concrete, evidence-based solutions for elephant welfare, policy reform, and conservation strategies that can be implemented at a national level.

04

A Sustainable Annual Forum

Build a recurring, annual summit that tracks progress year over year — ensuring accountability and continuity in the conservation dialogue.

05

Inspire a Global Movement

Inspire a long-term Asian and Global Elephant Forum, originating from Sri Lanka — establishing our island as a leader in elephant conservation.

The Road Ahead

Alimankada 2026 is just the beginning.
